When children pretend, they’re using their imaginations to move beyond the bounds of reality. A stick can be a magic wand. A sock can be a puppet. A small child can be a superhero.” — Fred Rogers
Children arrive and greet their fellow friends and teachers.
We gather together for group time with songs, stories, and movement, as well as inquiry and discussion on our plans and ideas for the day.
Our children are encouraged to engage themselves in self-initiated activities such as building, painting, imagining, creating, writing, and reading. Ample time is offered for open-ended exploration. Well thought out and carefully designed activities, which we call invitations and provocations, allow children to extend the learning into various opportunities such as gardening, art, light/shadow, music exploration, dramatic play and construction.
We prepare and offer a healthy and nutritious, self-serve, organic snack. Our snack menu is posted weekly in our Parent’s Area.
Our children clean up and prepare to explore and discover our outdoor learning area.
We set up art invitation and provocation for exploration. During Art Studio time, we explore the large variety of artistic materials, tools, and mixed media in order to create group masterpieces and unique artwork.
We explore and play outside in our yard and garden rain or shine. Please bring your child in proper clothing. Layers work well. If the weather is uncooperative for play and exploration, our outdoor time will be shortened.
We clean up, wash our hands, and prepare for lunch.
We reflect on the day and dialogue about new skills learned, read books, tell stories and sing songs to end the day together. Our children prepare to go home. The children greet their parents and say goodbye to their friends. This is a good time for a quick check-in with the teacher(s).
We have a mini-rest time that includes quiet time with books, yoga and/or mindfulness meditation. There are special interest learning activities, invitation set-ups and provocations to deepen developmental learning. An afternoon snack follows purposeful group games and fine/gross motor activities to end our afternoon program.
Our schedule is flexible with the children’s needs, interests and energy. However, we believe in providing a consistent schedule so that the children will feel safe and comforted in knowing that there’s consistency and familiarity in our preschool program.
